Heilongjiang

The province of Heilongjiang lies on the northeastern border of China, and its name derives from the Hilongjiang River, the largest river flowing through the province. It faces Russia on the opposite bank of the Hilongjiang River in the north and the Ussuri River in the east. The province has national borderlines stretching for 3,045 kilometers. It adjoins the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in the west and borders Jilin Province n the south. The province covers 454,800 square kilometers and has a total population of 38.15 million. 

As a province of abundant ethnic customs, it accommodates 49 ethnic groups, such as the Han, Manchu, Korean, Mongolian, Daur, Xibe, Ewenki, Oroqen the Hezhen. Besides the magnificent Greater and Lesser Khingan Ranges and the boundless Sanjiang Plain, there are also rolling hills, vast grasslands, dense forests and imposing volcanic landforms. Such rivers as Heilongjiang, Songhuajiang and Ussuri crisscross with one antoher in the province. Benefiting from its unique geological location and plentiful tourism resources, Heilongjiang Province has become a well-known destination for more than 30 travel programs, including summer tour, ice and snow tour, transnational tour, border tour and hunting tour. 

Central Street

Central Street

Located in downtown Daoli District, the Central Street is known as the most distinctive avenue of historical and cultural significance and a major commercial street in Harbin. It stretches 1,450 meters from the Flood Control Memorial Tower by the Songhuajiang River in the north to Jingwei street in the south. It is 21.34 meters wide, and its stone-planked carriageway spans 10.8 meters in width. There are scattered countless European-style buildings. The street concentrates buildings of the four most influential architectural gentres in the history of Western architecture, hence its nickname "textbook of Western architecture."

Harbin Ice-Snow World

The Harbin Ice-Snow World, established in the winter of 1999, brings a breakthrough to traditional ice and snow recreations. Ice and snow artworks have since said farewell to crowded gardens and walked close to nature. It combines winter landscapes and recreations with ice and snow sculptures and showcases beautiful scenery, superb craftsmanship and exciting entertainment.

Ice Lantern Festival

Ice Lantern Festival

This festival is held in Zhaolin Park in Harbin. Through cutting and chiseling, the ice from Songhua River will become ice potted landscape, buildings, caves, gullies, and forests, full of imagination and creation. The ice lanterns look like jade sculptures in the daytime. In the evening, the scene makes tourists feel as if they have entered a crystal palace when all the ice sculptures are illuminated with multicolored neon lights.

Located 97 kilometers south of urban Mudanjiang, the Jingbo Lake is known as the largest lava- blocked lake in China, as well as a state-level scenic resort. The lake is hidden amidst precipitous cliffs, forested peaks and lush foliage. Mountains on the lakesides are reflected on the placid water. Countless islets, big and small, are scattered on the lake. Among its eight famous isghts are the Tiaoshuilou Waterfall, Pearl Gate, Great Gushan Mountain and Little Gushan Mountain. The Tiaoshuilou Waterfall drops with great momentum from the mountaintop. In rainy or flood season, the waterfall may be widened into more than 200 meters, sending forth unparalleled magnificence. 

St.Sofia Church

St.Sofia Church

First built in March 1907, it is knownas the biggest Orthodox Church building in the Far East. Originally it served as a military church of Russia's Fourth Eastern Siberian Infantry Divison. The reconstruction of the church started in 1923, and lasted for nine years. With a Byzantine architectural style, it is 53.25 meters high and covers an area of 721 square meters. In November 1996, upon the approval of the State Council, St.Sofia Church was listed among the fourth batch of cultural sites under state special protection. Currently it serves as the Harbin Museum of Architecture.

Situated on the north bank of the Songhuajiang River, it is a well-known tourist resort both at home and abroad. It was oriniginally built as a summer holiday village by the White Russia in the early 1920s. Besides villas in various styles, the scenic area also boats lush foliage, soft and white sands, blue sky and clear water. The island is not only a summer resort, but also a fantasyland for winter tourism. It is in the Sun Island Park where the well-known Harbin Snow Sculpture Expo is held.
